The Culture Challenge

It’s all about changing the world…in His name.

Culture Challenge 2010

THE QUESTION

“What is the Christian response to poverty?”

“But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?”  I John 3:17 NKJV

We have some amazing Christian mentors in strategic areas of the culture [politics, service, biblical worldview, leadership, business, apologetics, journalism and entertainment/media] who will be dialoguing with participating students this year.

If asked, how would YOU answer the following questions?

  • When political liberals criticize political conservatives, including many American evangelical Christians, of lacking compassion for the poor and others in need in society, is the criticism valid? Why or why not?
  • Do liberals and conservatives have different views of how a society best expresses compassion? If you believe the answer is “yes”, explain and defend the two views.
  • What is the most pressing need of those in poverty?  Defend your position.

THE PRODUCT

Students will be asked to define the most pressing need of those in poverty AND then to construct one solution for that need.

Components:

A business model to fund solution

One of three communication products that support the business model:

  • A print communications response [editorial, poem, essay, short story, interview etc.]
  • A visual communications response [images to be used for web, marketing, etc.)
  • A verbal communications response (video short, audio clip, song, monologue etc.)
